Background of the study:
Long-term exposure to riverine water has potential implications for skin health, particularly in communities with high reliance on river water for daily activities. In Andoni, Rivers State, residents often use river water for bathing, washing, and other domestic purposes, which may expose them to various chemical and biological contaminants. Recent research suggests that prolonged contact with water containing pollutants and microorganisms can lead to skin irritation, dermatitis, and other dermatological conditions (Ifeoma, 2023). Furthermore, environmental factors such as seasonal changes and water pH may exacerbate skin conditions, leading to chronic skin issues among exposed populations (Chukwu, 2024). This study aims to investigate the long-term effects of riverine water exposure on skin health, examining the prevalence of skin conditions and identifying potential environmental contributors. Through comprehensive dermatological assessments and environmental analyses, the research seeks to develop effective recommendations for improving skin health in Andoni. The findings may also inform public health policies regarding water quality and community health education (Okoro, 2025).
Statement of the problem:
Residents of Andoni are potentially at risk of chronic skin conditions due to prolonged exposure to riverine water, yet there is limited empirical data linking water quality to skin health outcomes. The absence of such data hinders the development of effective public health interventions. This study intends to evaluate the correlation between long-term river water exposure and skin health deterioration.

Research Hypotheses:
Significance of the study:
This study is significant in establishing a link between long-term exposure to riverine water and adverse skin health outcomes. The findings will guide public health measures and improve water quality standards in Andoni (Ifeoma, 2023).
Scope and limitations of the study:
The study is limited to investigating the effects of long-term riverine water exposure on skin health among residents of Andoni Local Government Area. It does not include other environmental exposures.
